Sundari`s Tzunami mission in Aceh
During Christmas 2004 was an ocean earthquake nearby the west coast of Sumatra. This results in a big flood wave, called Tzunami. The Tzunami destroyed large parts of the west coast and northern parts of Sumatra. The province Aceh, with its capital city Banda Aceh was serious hidden by the flood.
The situation of the affected people prompted a widespread response around the world and also in Germany people started to collect money for the victims. The German Red Cross sent skilled workers to help and reconstruct houses, schools and hospitals.
The German Red Cross hired people from Java for administration and support of the desaster-organisation. I was asked to work for the organisation in October 2005
Teunom in Aceh / Sumatra
Due to the big ammount of humanitary help in Banda, the German Red Cross starts its reconstruction in Calang, Teunom and Meulaboh, on the west coast of Sumatra. Teunom, a village of aprox. 12.000 people was fully destroyed. Here, I start my work for this mission for the next 18 month of my life:
